I hope you are having a fabulous Summer so far? August is a busy time of year for many people – balancing work, childcare, holidays & fun days out – so exercise sometimes has to take a back seat. Or does it?… This is where my August 10,000 steps challenge comes in. The aim is to keep you active, still using your muscles and burning calories but fitting in around all your Summer fun.

The challenge is to achieve your 10,000 step target every day (or as many days as possible) for the next month – until you are back to September routine. 10,000 steps may sound like a lot (approximately 5 miles in total) but it is doable when you combine a purposeful walk or run with general daily activity such as housework, childcare or running errands.

Taking 10,000 steps a day will burn between 300-600 calories meaning you can enjoy an ice cream and a glass of wine guilt-free! And although you might not be losing weight over Summer, your 10,000 steps will go a long way to maintaining your weight so your jeans still fit in the Autumn!

This challenge is mostly aimed at people who are usually active or have been within the past 3-6 months but it can also be a great place to start if you are new to exercise – just be sure to build up gradually over the next month so you don’t overdo it and can sustain this new active lifestyle.

I’ll be tracking my steps on my Apple Watch but if you don’t have a wearable fitness device you can use your mobile phone or time yourself and aim for 1hr 40 minutes of steps per day. Comment below, message me directly or tag me on your social media posts for extra accountability.
