Initially, it was quite a commitment paying upfront for 3 months training. But after a couple of taster sessions, which I enjoyed and made me realise how much I needed to get fit, I was up for the challenge. The upfront payment also helps keeps me focused by not missing sessions and working hard.

I was a little unsure about the price at the start as I felt it was a little expensive compared to gyms in the town, but I have really enjoyed coming to classes and I like the fact that it is small groups and only 30 minutes at a time.
“I was aware that my life was becoming more sedentary. I used to have a daily walk to work and back (25 minutes each way). Since starting work at Loughborough University in December 2014, while living in Nottingham, I was spending much more time in the car. I was beginning to feel more stressed and anxious. I’d also stopped doing the regular line dancing I enjoyed, but was continuing to bounce on my mini trampoline at home. I’ve had a mini trampoline for quite some years so how could I resist finding out more about ‘Becky Says Bounce’? I was pleased to get involved with the latest Guinness World Record Attempt and signed up for a free taster session, thinking it could do no harm.
Before attending, Becky put me at ease right away. I was impressed by Becky’s marketing and how well she followed up on the opportunity to bring me in for that taster session. We exchanged texts even while I was on holiday in Lanzarote. I had to follow through after that! The importance of exercise to my mental health is as significant to me as the desire to maintain and enhance my physical fitness. In fact, it probably feels more essential to me. I experience depression and anxiety, and regular fitness sessions help to boost mood and energy levels.
The programme has been thoroughly welcoming and all of the personal trainers are great. I enjoy the variety of activities and the intensity of a 30-minute workout. It helps not knowing what to expect each time. I simply turn up and say hello to everybody and then do as I’m told. Occasionally I’ve been in sessions by myself, but usually with two or three others, and that social and motivational element is very encouraging. We get competitive only when we want to. Mostly, as individuals, we’re aiming only to increase our own potential, with the bonus of not having to feel alone while we do it. This support and camaraderie make the sessions fun even when the exercises are physically tough.
My best results so far are feeling more energised after each session and I’m very pleased with the toning effects, particularly around the waist, hip and thigh areas. I didn’t get involved in order to lose weight. That has never felt important to me. I got involved in order to feel better about myself – to hopefully feel as strong and healthy as I’m able. The result for me is a double-whammy of increased mental and physical resilience. I won’t pretend it’s always easy, but the commitment is worth it.”

“I was a new-ish mum, who just wasn’t exercising at all. I had exercised all through my pregnancy with Becky, and it kept me feeling really trim and healthy despite my growing bump. Looking after a newborn and getting out and about several times a week helped me lose my ‘baby weight’ really quickly. However, I returned to a new, full-time job when my little one was 9 months old, and I just didn’t have time (or wouldn’t make time!) for exercise. It really came to head during the summer, when all of my clothes were feeling tight, I felt terrible and I needed to do something. I got in touch with Becky because I’d enjoyed my sessions when I worked in Loughborough, and she told me she could help me and we could do ‘virtual’ personal training. I also needed an option of being able to train ‘at home’ after baby bedtime as my husband was working oversea for a lot of 2015, so I couldn’t get out to exercise elsewhere.
In the beginning, I honestly thought the whole thing would not work. The idea of personal training without someone pushing me seemed crazy. I didn’t think I’d have the motivation to do it, and to be quite frank the idea of ‘squatting’ in my living room seemed ridiculous. That said, having met and worked with Becky before, I knew it was worth a shot.
Even now, I still find the fact that I have ‘virtual’ personal training sessions crazy – more so that I have found the motivation to do the tasks I have set. Doing the online workout videos feels like having Becky in the room with me. Sometimes I even find myself asking her to be quiet whilst I’m concentrating on the plank! I’ve had a great programmes written, and they’ve all been flexible to fit in all of the other things that go on in life. Now the husband is back, I’ve taken to exercising outside more, and Becky has got me started on a running programme, which I’m really quite enjoying! I also love the weekly phone calls with Becky – I think these are the key to making me stick to my programme. Accountability makes all the difference.
My best result so far is that I can run! I mean, actually keep jogging for 30 minutes, slowly, but I can do it. I’m also amazed at the will power I’ve developed at pushing myself to get out and jog even if the weather is naff! The running has also led to some amazing changes in my body shape. There’s no longer any wobble anywhere on my legs, and my bum is pretty toned (it’s been many years…) – I have firm muscles in places I didn’t know they could exist. I’m feeling more confident in the changes that are taking place. And my growing confidence in my running ability means I’m already signed up for a 5k, 10k and half marathon in the next 12 months!”

“I came back to onesixeight: fitness for help with getting fit and toning up after realising that I lacked motivation when it came to going to the gym. I knew I needed to get back in the swing of regular exercise and do it in a way that wouldn’t impact too heavily on my workload. The half an hour sessions are high intensity and burn calories in a short space of time, allowing it to fit well around my other activities.
At first, I was worried about how much structure to the programme I would get, but I have been given a nutrition plan and I regularly attend 3 training sessions a week and I’ve even bought a mountain bike and now cycle as an additional activity around training!
Working with onesixeight: fitness has been great because they will do what is right for you and you get to train at your own pace. I love that it is really friendly, there is a sociable element while exercising, and you feel like everyone genuinely cares!
The one best result I’ve had so far is that my fitness levels and general energy levels are so much higher than when I took a break from exercise and wasn’t really doing anything. “Although I cycle every day to and from work, sitting at a desk most of the day, I felt unfit and lacking in energy. Having done various exercise classes in the past and finding I wasn’t sticking to the regime and attending regularly, onesixeight: fitness seemed a good option to get me back on track.I was concerned about the time commitment, but find that the short half hour sessions are easy to fit in to my week and are flexible, not having to stick to the same day or time each week. “After a fairly unsettled period at home, I was falling out of exercising after work. I really needed something to sign up to and make myself accountable but knew a gym membership was not going to be the solution having tried this in the past. I was aware of the onesixeight studio on campus and contacted Becky for more information.
I really appreciated Becky being able to see me so quickly and make sure we got straight into building a new routine. I didn’t really have any reservations as such, I was just unsure what to expect but a few months in I absolutely love it!
Everyone is so friendly and encouraging – and I know others have said something along the same lines but it really does feel like we’re all part of the onesixeight family. The morning sessions I now attend are ideal and set me up for the day. At first, I was anxious that I wouldn’t be able to do the exercises and that I would let both myself and my class mates down, but it has been fantastic.
I have been made welcome by all from the start and encouraged every step of the way to push myself as much as I can, without feeling overwhelmed. …Oh my word – genuinely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I love it, I’m totally motivated and leave every session with a massive smile on my face. These sessions have made me realise that 30 quality minutes is more than enough time to really push your limits and exceed your expectations. Becky is fantastic, extremely motivating and supportive with different challenges every session.

I wasn’t sure how the programme would work with my current training and the strength and conditioning demands of netball; however I can honestly say the 30 minute intense sessions has supplemented it brilliantly.

Kris’ Personal Training Success Story – “I have stuck with a class and really noticed the difference in my fitness and energy levels!” “I decided to approach onesixeight: fitness as, although I was losing weight through a slimming group, my fitness wasn’t good (I think pretty awful sums it up!). I also needed to strengthen my knee following an injury and the quote from the surgeon being “get it strong yourself or face surgery”! I had tried gym classes before but they never fitted timewise with my work and childcare commitments – I always managed to find an excuse not to go. Being honest I also found them quite intimidating – I am definitely not a fan of exercising in larger groups! Working with Becky has given me the motivation to stick at the classes – they fit with my schedule and the small group size is brilliant. Becky makes everyone feel supported. The support isn’t just around the exercise – there is support around nutrition and staying motivated too. I have really noticed my energy levels increase and I have also managed to avoid knee surgery so far – and I am getting closer to my target weight. “Before I joined onesixeight, I wasn’t very happy with my appearance and felt the need to exercise more. I knew that signing up to a gym wouldn’t make me any more motivated towards exercising regularly and that I needed to make some kind of commitment in order to strive for a healthier lifestyle. I didn’t have any reservations about coming back to onesixeight fitness, and if anything, the small group sessions gave me more incentive to join – it’s a really wonderful, tight-knit support network.
Working with Becky has been brilliant, if motivation is what you lack, Becky is there to provide it for you! PT sessions are now embedded into my routine – no more excuses! I started out with a target of 5 sessions a week (which I initially thought was crazy), but now I aim for 7-10 a week and always look forward to them.
Following a 1-2-1 session I had with Becky on positive thinking, every morning when I get up, I look in the mirror and tell myself I’ve reached my goal weight. As strange as that may sound, I instantly feel fantastic and rarely find myself having a ‘bad day’. Diane has been training with onesixeight: fitness for over a year and is pleased with her most recent success during her Christmas challenge. Since attending the October workshop, Diane has been setting herself weekly objectives to challenge herself. Her weight loss goal was to lose ½ pound each week in the lead up to Christmas and she has successfully achieved this goal – even whilst enjoying her Christmas parties!
Diane’s fitness target was to do 20 sessions over 10 weeks, and even after increasing her target to 30 sessions, Diane has still already achieved this goal too. Doing the extra PT session each week has helped Diane’s weight loss and fitness gains and she is now feeling fitter than ever. Diane is more flexible in her upper back and really feels like she is going to have the guilt-free Christmas that she deserves.

At my first meeting with Becky she explained that there were small group sessions for half an hour each session. I had always had one hour sessions at the gym and couldn’t believe that anything much would be achieved in half an hour. I was wrong!! Because the sessions are intense and there is a personal trainer standing in front of you making sure you are doing the exercises correctly it is much more effective than going to the gym and takes up less time. Becky is a very bubbly person and we always have a good laugh in the sessions. It is great fun and something to look forward to rather than a chore that going to the gym has always been for me in the past. I found results after only attending for a week. I have always been slim but was finding that my middle was becoming bigger than I was happy with. That has now been noticeably improved. I also notice that my balance is remarkably better now than when I started.”

Having lost about a stone since Jan through changing my eating habits and working out on my own at home, I needed something to keep me motivated to exercise. Initially I wasn’t sure about signing up for the PT sessions. I was worried about the cost and about exercising as part of a group. My only previous experience of this was PE at school and it’s fair to say I hated every minute of it! Still, I needn’t have worried. Becky, Liam, Jake and all the other members of team onesixeight make exercising a pleasure. Everyone is so friendly and encouraging and they really do create an atmosphere where I can stop feeling self-conscious and just get on with challenging & improving myself. The cost isn’t an issue at all now that I’ve got started and realize how much good the training is doing me. Previously I wouldn’t think twice about spending lots of money on a night out which would leave me feeling hungover so it actually feels good to be prioritizing my health and well-being.
